2012 Business Of The Year
The Vinings Business Association named the Vinings Historic Preservation Society its 2012 Business of the Year.
"You all can't possibly know what this means to me," society Executive Director Gillian Greer said while accepting the award at the association's monthly lunch meeting at the Social Vinings restaurant. "Everything we do is for Vinings. All the money we raise goes back to the community. With the exception of myself, everyone works for us on a volunteer basis. When you have so many people working hard for us, you can't help but be a success. ... Thanks, Vinings Business Association for believing in us and what we do."
The society is a nonprofit dedicated to preserving and protecting the community's historic sites, including the Yarbrough House, Pace House and Old Pavilion. It won against four other finalists: the Bright Side News Vinings edition, the Courtyard by Marriott Vinings hotel, LGE Community Credit Union and Social Vinings.
Association president Chris Heuser said the society received the award for its "community service."
"All the things they do are for Vinings, like the Pace House (which, along with the Old Pavilion, hosts public and private events), and 100 percent is for Vinings," Heuser said, adding choosing a winner was difficult, as in every other year.
Society president Karen DeRuyter said the organization was honored to get the award.
"We just launched our capital (fundraising) campaign, and this adds to it," she said.
Greer added, "It is just outstanding. ... This just ices our cake."
Keeping Pace Campaign
A heartfelt THANK YOU to each and every one of you who have contributed your time and treasure to support VHPS. This enables us to support our mission of preserving and maintaining of our historical gems:
The Pace House The Yarbrough House The Old Pavilion
We look forward to your continued support through membership, sponsorship and event attendance. Your selfless gifts are integral to our ongoing efforts and mission to preserve historic Vinings.
You are the first to hear about the launch of our Keeping Pace Campaign.
It is being launched in conjunction with several very visible projects to enhance and update our beloved historic properties. Over the last few weeks, you have seen your contributions at work in the refurbishing of the exterior of the Yarborough House.
This project includes:
• Remediation of lead based paint
• chimney repair/rebuild
• fence repair and painting
• improved signage
• improved curb appeal – landscaping and hardscaping
• eventual roof replacement
We are excited to begin the Yarbrough House project and will be so very pleased to share its completion with a community event. More info coming soon! In addition to the Keeping Pace Campaign, we will remain at work on other projects that support VHPS.
Watch your email and our local news publications for upcoming events and updates on our progress.

Vinings Jubilee – 25 Years in the Heart of Vinings!
Vinings Jubilee is not your typical shopping center. A family-owned centerpiece at the heart of the historic Vinings community, just miles away from the sprawl of downtown Atlanta, but miles away in attitude and demeanor, with a history all it's own.
Felix Cochran, a local real-estate developer – and a local to Vinings –purchased the land where Vinings Jubilee sits from Hardy Pace's great-great-granddaughter, Earle Carter Smith and Felix's vision was to build a gathering place – a "town center" – that would feature turn-of-the-century architecture celebrating the community's colorful past.
To ensure a degree of historic continuity, local architects studied the style of the historic homes still standing in Vinings and designed the shops and restaurants in Vinings Jubilee in the same style and spirit. A soaring clock tower was erected to serve as the symbolic and geographic heart of the new Vinings Village. The name 'Vinings Jubilee' came from the wish to show that the community was celebrating Vinings as a whole.
In October 1986, Felix Cochran dedicated Vinings Jubilee to the community of Vinings in tribute to its history. In the 25 years since the dedication, Vinings Jubilee has doubled in size, but continues to be a great connective force – a true centerpiece – where citizens come together to visit their favorite neighborhood merchants and to shop, dine, relax and celebrate the unique magic that is Vinings.
Vinings Jubilee's owners and management still take their role and responsibility as the "heartbeat" of Vinings seriously by supporting the community through the local organizations, schools and events throughout the year. Visit us soon for a wonderful glimpse of the heart of Vinings.
