Vinings Jubilee is not your typical shopping center. A family-owned centerpiece at the heart of the historic Vinings community, just miles away from the sprawl of downtown Atlanta, but miles away in attitude and demeanor, with a history all it’s own.
Felix Cochran, a local real-estate developer – and a local to Vinings –purchased the land where Vinings Jubilee sits from Hardy Pace’s great-great-granddaughter, Earle Carter Smith and Felix’s vision was to build a gathering place – a “town center” – that would feature turn-of-the-century architecture celebrating the community’s colorful past.
To ensure a degree of historic continuity, local architects studied the style of the historic homes still standing in Vinings and designed the shops and restaurants in Vinings Jubilee in the same style and spirit. A soaring clock tower was erected to serve as the symbolic and geographic heart of the new Vinings Village. The name ‘Vinings Jubilee’ came from the wish to show that the community was celebrating Vinings as a whole.
In October 1986, Felix Cochran dedicated Vinings Jubilee to the community of Vinings in tribute to its history. In the 25 years since the dedication, Vinings Jubilee has doubled in size, but continues to be a great connective force – a true centerpiece – where citizens come together to visit their favorite neighborhood merchants and to shop, dine, relax and celebrate the unique magic that is Vinings.
Vinings Jubilee’s owners and management still take their role and responsibility as the “heartbeat” of Vinings seriously by supporting the community through the local organizations, schools and events throughout the year. Visit us soon for a wonderful glimpse of the heart of Vinings.
