Many of you may know Mr. Marion Blackwell, a native of Atlanta and a long time resident of Vinings. Mr. Blackwell has written many essays and stories for Georgia Backroads, The AJC, The Landmarker, Friends Journal and Loftlife and he is an avid historian and supporter of VHPS. Marion has published his first book and we are very proud to have the book on sale at the Vinings Center! His book is a fascinating cross section of short stories about the Civil War, Atlanta area history, his passion for hiking, his long real estate career, and other topics. There is something for everyone in this book! Stop by our office Monday-Friday between 10:00 – 5:00 pm and pick up your signed copy. The list price for the book is $24.95 but Marion is offering the book at a sale price of $22 if it is purchased at the Vinings Center. He will also donate $5 to VHPS for each copy sold. The book is not available in stores or online so hurry in today and get your copy!!

coldstone-press-photoVHPS invites all of Vinings to the Pace House and Old Pavilion on Sunday, July 18th, 1:00pm-3:00pm, to salute National Ice Cream Day.  Coldstone Creamery will continue their tradition of sponsoring the event with their donation of ice cream and toppings. “Community involvement is very important to us and we look forward to a day of family fun with our Vinings neighbors,” as stated by Coldstone owner, Blake Rogers.

Additionally, Marshall McCabe, owner of Chick-fil-A at Akers Mill Square and Cumberland Mall, will contribute to the afternoon’s events with bean bag tosses and spin-the-wheel games.  Guests will walk away with coupons for the new fiery hot Spicy Chicken sandwich.  The Chick-fil-A Fireman Cow will be making a special guest appearance and the firemen from Vinings Fire Station Number Five will be on hand with their fire engine!

The Vinings Rotary will be serving up freshly popped popcorn and Fidelity Bank will be passing out their famous home baked cookies.  VHPS board member, Dean Morris, will be serving his famous hot fudge sauce, made from his closely guarded recipe. St. Angelo’s Pizza is sending their very own face painter to put smiles on the faces of the little ones!  We will also be featuring a collection of antique automobiles on the front lawn.

Bring your family and friends for a day of good old fashioned summer fun.  Admission is free to VHPS members and children under 12.  Admission for non-members over the age of 12 is $3.  Parking is across the street in the Piedmont Medical and Fidelity parking lot.

The Vinings Village Woman’s Club has always been a very generous supporter of VHPS and this year was no exception. Co-Presidents, Karen Smith and Cherry Peurifoy, presented VHPS President, Margaret Hathaway, with two checks totaling $5500 at the club’s annual spring luncheon. The checks were designated for landscaping at the corner of Paces Mill and Paces Ferry and much needed new chairs and tables for the Old Pavilion. Said Margaret Hathaway, “We can’t wait for the construction at the corner to be completed so the landscaping project can begin. We’re also thrilled to have new furnishings for the Old Pavilion so we can offer the brides and other clients who rent our venue a beautiful place for their special event.”
